My Why &
My Journey

From my own experience, I’ve seen how local sports clubs can uplift an entire community.
Skating clubs are more than places to practice—they’re vibrant, welcoming hubs where kids feel excited to lace up their skates and chase their dreams. There’s something special about watching young skaters work hard, grow in confidence, and feel that spark of pride when they reach a goal.

I’ve seen grassroots clubs win national contests, small‑town coaches earn provincial recognition, and skaters from tiny communities step onto national competitive stages and perform in professional ice shows touring the world. Those moments don’t happen by accident—they’re built on the dedication of volunteers, coaches, and families who create an environment where possibilities are within reach.

Every achievement in our sport was laid long ago by coaches, volunteer board members, and supportive parents who created humble, yet inspiring beginnings filled with possibility. Their dedication built the environments where skaters could grow, dream, and discover what they were capable of, all while inspiring the next generation of leaders to step forward and carry the torch even further.
This kind of enthusiasm for creating a meaningful training environment may never make headlines on the world stage of skating, but its influence on each childs journey is profound and far‑reaching; shaping confidence, developing perseverance and learning discipline – skills that will be utilized throughout life, not just sport.

This is the heart of what Change of Edge values.

The Journey

For the 9-years I spent as amateur skater, I trained for seven years under Per (KjØlberg) Larsen — 7-x Norwegian Champion, 6-x Nordic Champion, European and World Competitor, and star of Holiday on Ice for 14 years—at the Coquitlam Figure Skating Club, where I was immersed in a competitive training environment, with other extraordinary coaches and skaters.

When I chose to pursue coaching, I intentionally started in small‑town clubs rather than returning to the established club where I had trained. It wasn’t the expected choice, but it allowed me to grow in ways I couldn’t have anticipated.

Along the way, I learned from experienced coaches, collaborated with diverse colleagues, worked with dedicated volunteer boards, and coached many youth as they grew in the sport. Each experience shaped my approach and reinforced what I value most — being part of the positive growth and development of people participating in our sport.

Along the way, I was fortunate to learn from a few very experienced coaches, collaborate with a diverse group of colleagues, work alongside dedicated volunteer boards, and, of course, coach many children, helping them along their journey. All of these people contributed to my development and played a meaningful part in shaping the coach I’ve become.

Proudly Serving Grassroots Figure Skating Clubs in Canada

Consistently increasing participation in group programs between 56% – 116% by revamping group programs and creating bridge programs to ensure ease of transition to higher levels and member longevity. Consistently increased PA recruitment up to 90%.

A financially stable club brings benefits to everyone involved. With solid finances, coaches have some freedom to introduce new ideas, invest in equipment or add to the ice schedule while board members can make thoughtful and sound decisions without the pressure of financial constraints.

My experience and practical insight are available through lesson instruction, consultations, and a blog focused on clear, actionable guidance. Change of Edge exists to support your goals and strengthen your club with solutions that work.

And because I have ice in my veins, Change of Edge also showcases the two books I’ve written — a clear, practical guide to enhance your practice, and a playful children’s book for kids taking their first steps on the ice. Alongside them, you’ll find original art, apparel, and gifts for anyone who loves the sport. On the ice or off, there’s something here to express your passion with personality and style.
